EP1: Brahm Stoker’s Dracula

A mystery box of VHS tapes

For our first ever episode we embark on a bit of serious GenX nostalgia/narcissism with Francis Ford Coppola’s take on the classic 1897 vampire novel. When the film came out in 1992, it had one of the biggest fall opening weekends ever. Coppola’s Dracula had a big budget, bigger stars, and an attention to mis en scene that was quite engrossing. Watching it in 2020 though, promises to be a different experience.

We shove our naked ex-rental copy bought sometime in the 90’s from Smithmyer’s Superette in Loretto, Pennsylvania into the VCR to determine if the film is camp, retro, a classic, or just an old movie we still own.

I also dropped an F bomb or to, just FYI.
